Rare Gold – Unisto helps make whisky history

When independent Scottish distillers BenRiach decided to release a limited supply of their 40 year old Speyside single malt whisky, they knew they had something special which needed the appropriate packaging to match.

Commissioned by BenRiach to develop a commemorative gift set for the limited edition whisky, specialist packaging design consultants Source 2 Supply turned to Unisto to provide high quality plaques for the mahogany outer.

“We were keen to involve Unisto for their technical knowledge of adhesives and global manufacturing resources. Having worked with Unisto before, we knew we could be sure of a top quality finish while bringing in the project at a realistic price.”

With only 2 hogsheads selected – resulting in just 265 gift sets - every detail had to be just right for this exclusive release. Unisto worked alongside Source 2 Supply from the earliest stages to develop the mock-ups resulting in 2 finished designs for the gold metal plaques, which had to be matched precisely and glued into a recess in the gift box lid.

The mahogany gift box has been designed with a vacuum form inner, housing a hand-numbered miniature version of the 40 year old malt, an engraved pewter hip flask and a certificate of authenticity signed by BenRiach’s MD and master distiller.

Concluding, Source 2 Supply added: “Unisto were able to work closely with us during production in China, liaising with their own local manufacturing facility which is situated in close proximity to the factory we used to produce the main packaging elements. This meant we were able to get the right end result and timing was excellent.”
